Please, welcome to the show with me. Cliff, Nonnenmacher. Did I pronounce it correctly? Nailed it? Okay? Awesome. Cliff, for our listeners, getting today for the first time, would you please give us a little more about your story and your current focus?

Cliff

Yeah, absolutely. Thank you for having me on your show. I appreciate it. My story goes back as a child. Actually, I’ve been an entrepreneur my whole life. Age eight, age nine, just grinding it out. Used to scour for golf balls in and country clubs and sell them at entrances. I ultimately created what I believe is the first Uber Eats back in 1990 1991 I delivered about 300 deliveries a day. I believe I was the first subcontractor in United States for McDonald’s. It did 100 deliveries a day just for McDonald’s, and we’re just delivering food. We
used what is now old technology pagers. So each restaurant got a code, and they would enter their code and the number of minutes they needed me to get there. That evolved into watersport concessions. It evolved into auto detailing. It evolved into buying and scaling gyms. It evolved into the restoration industry, water, fire, mold and biohazard. It evolved into
restaurants. It evolved into boba tea. It’s evolved into video stores. Like there’s so manydifferent things that I have done. People hate the term serial entrepreneur. I happen to think
it’s, it’s, you know, quite fitting. You’re just constantly doing things that I distributed, the fun noodle, you know, the little neoprene tube you float on back in. That was like 2000 man. That was, like, really early, because I moved to Marco in 1988 and that wasn’t too long after that that was distributing that fun noodle. The fun noodle didn’t want to send small boxes to buyers. They wanted to send tractor trailers. So I bought tractor-trailers, of them, and started distributing them across the country. They would just refer to me and say, hey, if you only want five boxes of these things, then call this guy. So yeah. But the journey has been exciting, but it really starts creating wealth, till I got involved in franchising, right? So, I was doing things on my own, but it wasn’t, it wasn’t going to really get me where I wanted to be excellent.

Brett

So that’s we’re gonna be talking about today with Cliff. By the way, can learn more about going to Fran franocity.com or, for now, city.com F, R, A, N, O, C, i, t, y.com, and it’s about helping you find the perfect business. And so let’s start with that, Cliff. What is the number one secret to helping a corporate executive find the perfect business to franchise?

Cliff

Yeah, for us, it’s investment objectives, right? A lot of people focus on brand selection, and we say, forget the brands. Just stop looking at brands. Why are you here? What are yourinvestment objectives? What what are you trying to accomplish? What do you want to invest? What is your appetite for risk, appetite for debt, right? What do you need to earn? Is this alegacy play for the children and grandchildren? Are you trying to create an annuity inretirement? Are you trying to exit corporate America completely and start scaling your ownbusiness enterprise? So, understanding the investors objectives and exactly why they’re here really helps us now on the brand selection side and of course, geography, where are you? A lot of people have great dreams and goals and aspirations that then they live in an area, quite frankly, that is not going to support those goals, that this discretionary spending, discretionary income, it’s like, look great idea. You’ve got big picture. You’re thinking big.

About Cliff Nonnenmacher

Cliff Nonnenmacher has been entrepreneurial from an early age, starting his first venture at just eight years old selling golf balls outside local country clubs. By 19, he had already launched one of the first food delivery services in the U.S., delivering over 100 McDonald’s orders a day—well before the era of modern delivery apps. His journey continued through ventures in watersport concessions and product distribution before transitioning to Wall Street, where he worked as an investment banker with Morgan Stanley after building a successful day trading portfolio.

In 2003, Cliff shifted his focus to franchising, acquiring master franchise rights and going on to own and operate multiple brands, including Cartridge World and ProClean. Over the past 25+ years, he has become a recognized leader in the franchise space, helping scale national brands and mentoring aspiring business owners. As the founder of Franocity, he now helps individuals evaluate and invest in franchise opportunities with a practical, no-fluff approach. He also hosts the “Pursuit of Profit” podcast and authored Beyond the Brand, sharing insights to help others build scalable businesses and long-term wealth.
