Scaling a business requires more than finding new customers—it requires building the right team without allowing rising costs and operational complexity to slow your growth. In this episode of Build It to Billions, Brett Swarts sits down with Eric Tabone, founder and Managing Director of Nearshore Business Solutions, to explore how entrepreneurs can access top remote talent across Latin America to build high-performing teams and scale more efficiently.

Eric shares how nearshore hiring can help companies access skilled professionals, reduce hiring costs, and collaborate across compatible time zones. Brett and Eric also explore how AI is transforming hiring, productivity, and the future of work, and how entrepreneurs can combine talented people with emerging technology to create leaner, more scalable businesses.

Eric

Hey Brett, how are you? Thanks so much for having me. Looking forward to it.

Brett

I’m doing great, thank you so much. And for our listeners, get to know you for the first time. Would you give us just a little bit more about your story and your current focus?

Eric

Yeah, absolutely. I think my intro kind of gave a quick overview, but just to kind of dive in. I’m originally from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I went traveling about 1617, years ago, made it down to Bogota, Colombia, and I kind of forgot to go back. I’m still down here. Built a couple of companies along the way. Currently on my third company, my first two companies across a variety of industries. Right now, I’m helping US companies hire talent across that in America. So, been a crazy ride. I have the battle scars to prove it, and it’s only the beginning, the way I see this one.

Brett

excellent, and let’s dive right into the topic, right, which this is exciting, because I think a lot of entrepreneurs, if they have businesses, they want to keep the same time zone, which is one of the big, big keys, so we’ll talk about that secret here in a minute, but perhaps they’ve, you know, gone to the Philippines for most of their talent, or they’ve gone to India for some of their talent, different time zones, different challenges. Talk about how you fell in love with Latin America, and just to be able to bring near-shore talent. What’s the story? And let’s dive into what the best ways to businesses take advantage of that.

Eric

Yeah, 100% So, my first company, it was a services company working within the educational market, and I kind of bring this up because this is kind of where I cut my teeth, and at the time I probably had 6070 people on my team, I started to see over and over again, you know, the professionals across Colombia and that in America, just mind blowing. This was in 2010 up to, you know, 2020 give or take, and so before pandemic, to an extent, a lot of people weren’t working remotely, and so what ended up happening, pandemic, for better, for worse, there were quite a few changes that happened across the world, but one of those being that people started to see that you can hire remotely across the world, and so I already knew what was going on that in America, what could be hired, what was the potential, and I had a lot of friends back home to start asking me, How do I do this, and that’s kind of where I started to go with that. So, I mean, you kind of talked about a couple of important things, you know, like when you think about near shores, pretty much, how do you hire people in Latin America? Why that them? Same time zones, cultural alignment. A lot of these people grew up watching Friends, and they’re speaking this better than I do. So, I think something like that, that’s always just really interesting to take into account. I’m not saying that in America is better than the Philippines, but it has its pros compared to the Philippines, and I mean the one thing I’ll just kind of point out, you know, the Philippines, you’re looking at 12, 1314, hour time difference, depending on where you’re located. I don’t care who you are, you are not going to have a professional who’s willing to work the graveyard shift every night just to be on your time zone, if they’re good at their job, and that’s one of those things that just kind of comes up. I mean, a lot of the clients who come down, they’re just like, hey, I need to build this team, what do I do? I want people that I can actually speak to at 9am then having to wait to 9pm to get a message. That’s just kind of where it started, and from there we just growing and placing over and over again.

Brett
