Emmanuel
Brett, great to be with you again. You know, and looking forward to our conversation.
Brett
Absolutely, for our listeners, get to know you for the first time. You want to give us just a little bit, a little bit more about your story and your focus.
Emmanuel
Well, I started Tab Global in 1996, so it’s 30 years now. And in that time, I spent the first few years building my proposition country by country. I mean, in Asia, if you traveled 100 miles in any direction, you’d be in another country. So, you know, stitching that together took a while, but now we’ve grown into the Middle East in Africa, basically on the proposition that we help banks run their businesses well by benchmarking themselves operationally and looking forward to you know how technology is transforming the industry. But then from there we built into wealth management, and right now I’m in London, and we we’re actually about to launch a program on AI regulation. So, looking forward to that. We’ve become very global in what we do. At the back end, we’re basically a research house with a lot of good content on the front end. We basically are a well-networked B 2b platform for financial services.
Brett
Excellent. Yeah, I love it. And let’s dive right into maybe just that topic for today, right? How AI is changing the future of finance, and what are some of the things that are some maybe some potential big mistakes people are going to be making if they don’t you know think through this in a way that is thoughtful and intentional?
Emmanuel
AI is transforming finance at different layers; it’s transforming finance from the inside out. What used to be a traditional business banking is being revolutionized in the way the hierarchy within the bank is changing. So, where the decisions are made, who makes the decisions, it’s not just a productivity game anymore. When we were moving from traditional banking into digital banking, all of that was doing the same thing faster and more, you know, productively. But the whole idea of AI in banking is that it’s a game changer. The institution itself is being transformed, and that whole idea. And I struggle with this in in my first book, the Great Transition: the personalization of finances here, and that is that the whole intermediation proposition of banking is being you know stood on its head at the moment. So technically, individuals can transact with each other without the need for banks as intermediaries. In fact, what AI does is it enables the end user to tell the bank speak to my hand, meaning you know, I don’t need to deal with you anymore. I you know my agent can talk to you and get all the transactions done. So, the institution has to redefine its relevance to a transaction. You know that that it doesn’t stand in the in the middle between. Someone paying another person, so a lot is happening on that front. How that transition will evolve depends on a number of factors. The regulators would like to see that transition, that that that you know intermediation role not go away.
