He spent 18 years as a corporate banker, over a billion dollars in real estate and financing. He’s a pro at what he does. Please welcome the show with me, Mr. Sam Moore. Sam, how we doing?
Sam
Howdy, Brett. Man, glad to be here. Excited to just talk real estate today with you.
Brett
Yeah, grateful to have you as well. And for our listeners getting to you for the first time, would you give us a little bit more about your story and your current focus? Yeah,
Sam
yeah. So, I’ve actually I’ve been in real estate some form or fashion now for actually 25 years now, and I started as a corporate banker, as you said, and it was really interesting. My start was not what I thought it would be. All I did all day, every day in the banking world was underwrite deals. So, I just I did underwrite for just years in the banking world, thinking, man, this is just tough work. But I was cutting my teeth and learning how to lend money to these companies and on these real estate deals, and what that gave me, and what I didn’t realize, you know, you kind of have to fast forward years from that. Is wow, I had a good understanding of the numbers and the quantitative side of the business, and so I started investing in real estate in 2007 for the bigger apartment deals, and I really got into that business because I had years to actually understand it from an underwriting perspective and see how things work and who does what well and you know what you know if this then that and you were able to look at a lot of these deals strictly from the numbers side and it wasn’t until Iactually started investing the deals that I really learned a lot more on the qualitative side, and so you know that’s kind of fast forward. You know, doing hundreds of millions of dollars of deals between now and then, and you learn a lot along the way. And so, you know, I’m one of the older guys at our firm, and you know got a few gray hairs and battle scars to prove it. And you know that’s kind of where we’re at today.
Brett
