For the first time, would you give us a little bit about your story and your current focus? Yeah.

Chris

So in like 2013 I was working as a level one like it support for a real estate development company, basically one of those guys that you call and they reset your password or tell you to turn it on and off again. And it wasn’t going that well for me. I didn’t like it, and I was in some credit card debt, so I started finding ways to make money on my own, and I stumbled into search engine optimization, started doing a little bit of that, and it did well. And then Google update sent me back. So I started doing client SEO and taking, like, phone calls right there at my day job. And eventually that led me to SEO freelancing, which led me to create my own platform for that, which is what I’m focusing on now, and have been for almost eight years now.

Brett

Fantastic. It’s funny how you know our life set this up, and as our jobs are the things that we’re doing, at least each each of it creates a path to where we’re at today. What would you say your superpower is? Right? If you like if you like, one superpower, super strange, or like, you know, Chris is always just kind of naturally

Chris

good at what, there’s a couple things I have a weird memory. Like, I can remember this a specific day that anything in my life happened that’s just kind of a odd trait. But as far as like, as relates to business, I’ve always been good at, like knowing what somebody else is really good at, even before they figure it out. So like the people on my team, I put them in roles where I know that they’re going to be good, even if they don’t think so, and I just have an ability to identify people’s talents.

Brett

Oh, that’s a really cool one. I haven’t quite heard that before. I like the way you put that, knowing what other people are good at, and then putting them in a spot to succeed, and then just having kind of specific memory for specific dates and things, that’s really okay, cool. We’ll see if we can apply that today to what we’re talking about. So chat GPT versus SEO. I’m seeing it more in the news, right? And it’s like they’re saying, Hey, you want to be the top of chat GPT is where people are going. Maybe you can give us your thoughts on that, a What’s your feedback or thoughts on that initially, when I say that and then B, where do you think things are going as AI and the chat gpts and the gronks and the clouds and all the different ones start to become a little more popular. Yeah. So

Chris

first of all, if you work in like, tech or marketing or it, you’re in a bit of a bubble of how big those things are currently like, I know people that are like, yeah, people use chat GPT as much as they use Google. Like, no, they don’t like, it’s maybe headed that direction. But for now, like, your grandma doesn’t know what chat GPT is, but she probably knows what Google is. So, you know, turn the alarms off for now. But that said, you did. You need to prepare for it. And I’m starting to see an analytics from different clients, as well as my own sites, more and more traffic coming from chatgpt. So I think it’s going to be a matter of where you get, what kind of information you get from where. I don’t think that AI searches are ever going to be able to tell you how to find the best Italian restaurant in your city or something like that. That’s just a random example. But if you want information like I think that’s, I think it’s much better suited to that, and Google kind of knew that as well, which is why things like Reddit have gotten so much better or so much more search volume. But it’s still not what people want. People don’t want to. How do I I don’t know, install a dishwasher. They. Just want the steps they don’t want to go through four ads, two AI overviews, and then a blog with 9000 words before it tells you how to do that. So topics like that that are informational, people are going to prefer AI, in my opinion, of course, to Google. But if you want something local, or if you want e commerce, like if you’re just looking for to buy, I don’t know, some jewelry or something, I think Google is going to be a better search engine. Better search engine for that. So I think the different types of businesses, some are going to do worse and some are going to do better. And you have to know what you are and where you fit in that.

About Gary Menzies

In 2012, Chris found himself intrigued by the potential of earning extra income online. His job in IT support wasn’t enough to cover his expenses, especially with the weight of student debt from college.

This curiosity led him to discover internet marketing, which seemed attractive because of the low entry barrier.

After trying a number of different online hustles from affiliate marketing to flipping items on eBay, Chris started learning about SEO to sell services on a marketplace.

Starting with his very first sale of social signals, which he’s still known for today, Chris quickly turned his SEO services into a 7-figure business by prioritizing client results.

But then things took a bad turn when the marketplace he was using broke down.

Chris turned this obstacle into an opportunity and created Legiit, for which he developed a burning passion as it enabled him to give others the same opportunity he had.
