If you really want to achieve something like financial freedom, or whatever your goals are, you’re going to get there so much faster and efficiently. If you pick one thing, get really good at it, and just rinse and repeat.

So, what is the number one secret to building real estate or having real estate by design?
Matthew
Well, I would say one of the biggest mistakes that I had made in my career, and I look back, and you know, I get asked the question a lot, what’s the one thing you would tell your younger self, and honestly, it’s, it’s not sexy, but it’s focus, it’s really stay focused on what kind of real estate you’re interested in. I was one of those investors, I think a lot of people talked about the shiny object syndrome that we, as investors have, and that was mine, you know, I started off flipping, then I did long poles, then I did short term hubs, then I did wholesaling, then I did turn keells, out of state that did development. So I’ve jumped around, I haven’t touched every niche. But you know, I would get excited and then do something. And then get excited and do something I heard a metaphor recently about building a bridge to your financial freedom Island or your, the island essentially, that gets you to work in the business that you love. And so the metaphor went, essentially like this, I was building a bridge, let’s start with flips. I was building a flip bridge to get to that, that island of freedom. And then I start looking over to my left and right, and I see long term hold. BiggerPockets was a great place to get a lot of information, but then I got the bug for, you know, $100 Well, back then Brandon Turner was talking about $100, that door net. Now I think he says $200 a door or something like that. So I started looking at that bridge. So then I walked back to the island I was first on and started building this next bridge. And then I saw turnkey rentals. And then I stopped building the long term rental bridge and started going down this bridge, short term development, all of that. And so that’s a long winded way of saying that, if you really want to achieve something like financial freedom, or whatever your goals are, you’re gonna get there so much faster and efficiently. If you pick one thing, get really good at it, and just rinse and repeat. And once you built that business and built it properly, then you can start fidgeting around with other things and leveling up or doing some other type of real estate but at least you have something set a good foundation and you know, being a structural guy, you think I would have had that foundation set up properly. But man I was you go to these real estate conferences or your local Ria, man, all these things sounds so sexy when you hear them and you’re just like, Man, I want to jump on that I want to do that. So yeah, I would say just focus. Focus, focus focus. Excellent. So real estate by design

secret number one is to focus like a laser don’t build multiple bridges to multiple niches simultaneously get that one it’s fully built to that island. I literally put it financial freedom Island, right? Correct. And maybe it’s even entrepreneurial freedom. Maybe it’s even things that you love to do Island, right like in track train, obviously to pick that bridge that you’re building towards. I think sometimes that helps us to clarify what we really want by having that vision that clarity what that islands gonna look like, beyond just final peace or by not just financial free. It’s whatever you really love to do.
